Updated: Feb 3

Hey there. In an effort to get back into blogging (I think I was never really a good blogger) I have decided to make instead an article every week to get back into blogging and also record my outfits + musings somewhere that's not a social media app.

This is how I'm going to structure these:

  • Outfits (7, obviously)

  • Updates

  • reads of the week

  • a poem

  • music (5 songs)

  • Ins/Outs

  • Snacks

  • my current fixation

and finally, a picture of my cat, Biene. You all deserve that, she's a freaking cutie.

This week has been a mixture of cold + snowy and lack of motivation generally. For those who do not know, I post videos of my outfits every single day and have been doing so for about 1178 days now. Hence the numbers next to the dates. Sometimes if I wear something else in the evening that will count as another outfit, but that's not something we have to worry about this week.

Monday - 1172

I needed to feel good this day and I knewww that this skirt + shirt combo would do the trick. I found this skirt at TJMaxx and instantly fell in love. It was aggressively, instantly meant for me. What a feeling when you find something like that!

Deets:

top: thrifted Buffalo Exchange

skirt: TJMaxx

earrings: Buffalo Exchange

boots: Sam Edelman

necklace: Urban Outfitters

Tuesday - 1173

Deets:

sweater: thrifted via Depop

shorts: Rag & Bone via 260samplesale

boots: JustFab

earrings: Buffalo Exchange

Wednesday - 1174

Deets:

turtleneck: secondhand

skirt: thrifted from Buffalo Enchange

boots: JustFab

belt: appeared in my closet one day

Thursday - 1175

I worked from home and got dinner with Gab at our favorite soup dumpling place. It was seasonally inappropriate, completely, but I think I needed to feel the spring-adjacent bloom of hope.

Deets:

top: thrifted via Belly Button's Boutique

belt: I still do not know

earrings: June Rose Jewelry

jeans: Madewell from Nordstrom Rack

shoes: Eastland from DSW

Friday - 1176

God I really wanted to like this outfit but I just didn't. I think I still don't.

Deets:

shirt: thrifted / vintage

jeans: thrifted Carmar Denim from Plato's Closet

boots: justfab

Saturday - 1177

Saturday it snowed and then rained which was kind of dreary in a fitting way. I bought three books: The Haunting of Hill House being one of them.

Deets:

sweater: my mama’s

jeans: thrifted Carmar Denim from Plato's Closet

boots: also my mom’s

I did not bring home clothes!

Sunday - 1178

It snowed today a bunch. It think it's actually still snowing, but it's a great day for being indoors and updating your writing website and writing blog posts and submitting your book! Which, omg, is that I am doing today. That, and my best.

Deets:

bag: Baggu

sweater: mama’s, Aerie

jeans: thrifted Carmar Denim from Plato's Closet

boots: JustFab

Scarf: gift, Urban Outfitters

Updates

I went home for the long weekend (I don't think I'll be able to go home at all in February so I took advantage). I've been depressed: a mix of seasonal, circumstance, inauguration, and the Tiktok ban. and then unban? It's all (all!) been such a rollercoaster and I am emotionally exhausted as I'm sure many of you are too.

I start class (!) on Tuesday, so that'll be my 6th class out of 10 for my masters. Getting closer, that's kind of freaky. I love the structure of school and I already will miss it (not paying for school though. God.)

I read a lot this week. Do not ask why, I do not know. Here's what I read:

When In Rome

by Sarah Adams

Romance, based on Audrey Hepburn's Roman Holiday. Surprisingly delightful, I am always a bit romance-skeptical, I'll admit.

This is How You Lose the Time War

by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

Two time-traveling spies who fall in love! Falling in love is the best!

Falling Toward the Moon

by Robert M. Drake and R.H. Sin

The moon and the random poem I opened up to in B&N spoke to me. This is what I'm currently reading.

I've decided to give you a poem each week too since I be writin' so many.

eating alone

at two and a half years old,

newly adopted, her first home

my cat wouldn't eat

unless I sat with her.

she would lay next to me,

let me hold her in my arms

but didn't trust her world to eat alone

to be in such a vulnerable state

back turned, unguarded.

after all

her history demonstrated, time and time again

that her food would be stolen

she'd have to fight for it

that someone could hurt her

because they did, they had.

two years later

she'll lay next to me

let me hold her in my arms

and eat

even when I'm not there

but some days

she still asks

Music

Fun ones this week! I say that with full sarcasm because look at these choices. It's giving emotional overthinking lover girl, aka my entire aesthetic.

Taylor Swift: The Prophecy

Hey, this is a deep cut! She actually wrote this about me. And it hurts.

Remi Wolf: Soup

Hopeless and cold! I love the funkiness of Remi and her lyrics are too good.

Alice Phoebe Lou: My Girl

A hand-hold. Thank you Kali for this one.

Taylor Swift: Peter

It's a super Tortured Poets Department week. Unfortunately has become quite relatable!

Lorde: Secrets of a Girl (Who's Seen it All)

This is a hand-hold too, optimistic and gentle but real. I love this album.

Ins/Outs

In this week is loving with all you've got and having hope.

Out is overanalyzing and thinking for someone else.

Snacks

My parents came to visit and we stopped at Ole and Steen and got bread, specifically the Christianshavner Loaf with butter which is very, very delicious.

Fixation

Writing has been my fixation this week, specifically uploading my poems to Hello Poetry, which I previously hadn't been able to do since June (?) because I couldn't verify my freakin email. All good now.

Picture of my Cat

As promised:

(she made a cave between my blankets)

Thanks for reading, see you next week :)

♡♡♡

Mel
